In astronomy, I did my first podcast. It was on Uranus and I did it with a partner. Doing a podcast was really fun because we made it sound really cool and we got to learn more about Uranus. For example Uranus looks blue-green because there are clouds made up of tiny crystals of methane. It also has a strong magnetic field.
My favorite part of Earth's atmosphere is learning about the northern lights or the aurora borealis. They are located in the thermosphere, Earth's outermost layer, in the lower layer called the ionosphere. They are four layers in our atmosphere the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, and ionosphere. Particles from the sun enter the ionosphere near the poles and particles hit atoms in the ionosphere causing them to glow. I enjoyed learning about the northern lights because they look beautiful.
For geology my favorite unit was learning about volcanoes. It was interesting to learn how the magma collected in magma chambers. Then moves upward through a pipe and exploded out of a vent because gases are under tons of pressure. Also the temperatures of magma depends on viscosity. If the viscosity increases temperature decreases.
The best part of weathering and erosion was the weathering and erosion book. We made the book on the computer and put all kinds of pictures of weathering and erosion on it. We also took pictures of our own. We decided what kind of layout and colors we wanted to do which made it feel our own. It was fun to create a book because I never have before on the computer.
The best part of Earth's waters was when we watched a video that used water to cut some kind of metal. It cut the metal by putting alot of pressure of the water and making it shoot out of a tube. Water is extremely strong because of capillary action and surface tension. Water is destructive, but we need it to survive. Only 3% of water is drinkable which I found amazing.
